My kat Spice is best kat in the wurld. my momy sas spice is a peece of shit. she puurrs alot. (I would have put in the backwards letters but its kinda hard with a computer) Spice puurs when she is hapy. Spice purs becase she has a buter fli in her stomak. Wen she gets hapy her stomak gets biger and the buterfli gets to fli arond.

well, i have a cat, and i sure do love when she purrs. i know WHY she purrs, bc its always when shes getting some good loving from me or some of her other friends. or when shes clawing the carpet (or my pants), one of her other favorite activites that she does to relieve stress (or so they say). but i have wondered HOW she purrs from time to time so i jumped at the opportunity to do some research and found a pretty good explanation BUT this is my favorite line in the explanation and the most important...

"Despite being a universally recognized phenomenon, the exact mechanism by which the cat purrs has been frustratingly elusive for scientists. This is partly because the cat has no obvious anatomical feature unique to it that would be responsible and may also be partly because a cat placed in a laboratory for examination is unlikely to make the noise."

i believe this is because cats strive to maintain their element of mystery. which is a huge reason why i love cats. sneaky little ninkumpoops.
but if you want to read more about some hypotheses.

You have to look at the etymology of the word 'purr' to answer this question. 'Purr' comes from the Latin 'Purr,' as used in, "Listen to that chariot engine purr. Now let's go invent a ridiculous numerical system. We've got XIV minutes to come up with something that makes sense..."

So, you see, cats purr by revving their internal combustion engines.
